Palliative Care
Our hospital has offered palliative care since 1997, with the aim of improving quality of life for patients with terminal illnesses. We believe that patient-centered care includes not only treatments to cure disease, but also efforts to relieve suffering when continued aggressive treatment is no longer beneficial. We will honor you or your loved one's decision to pursue palliative care and ensure that this period of time is one of dignity and peace. Our multidisciplinary team of physicians, surgeons, psychological staff, and anesthesiologists will focus on pain management and follow the necessary steps to enhance patient comfort. During this difficult time, it is our highest priority to provide as much support as possible, carefully guiding you and your family through this process.
Should you or your loved one not be able to provide consent when a decision about continued treatment or palliative care must be made, we will follow the procedure laid out by the Natural Death Act of Taiwan. If there is a signed advance directive for palliative care, we will proceed according to the patient's wishes. In the case that this document has not been prepared, we will turn to the individual with the legal right to make this decision. Depending on the situation, this may be the next of kin, appointed medical power of attorney, or legal guardian.
